Do you remember the video we watched at the Big Splash that explained Baptism? Let’s watch it again.
Baptism is a really cool way to show all your friends and family that you really do believe; that your heart wants you to be part of God’s family. Even Jesus was baptized! He never sinned but was baptized to show the world how much he loved and trusted God.
When we go under the water it’s a way to say, without words, that we choose to give up our old ways of living (learn about God’s ways and try not to SIN) and be raised up, to live a new life- following Jesus. Baptism tells the story of what we believe. Baptism tells YOUR story! At WEC we say it like this; baptism is an outward sign (that just means something that you will do that others can hear and see) of an inward change (that means in your heart you have decided to BELIEVE).

One thing you’ll begin to learn is to watch what Jesus did so you will know what to do. It’s like looking in a mirror. Whatever Jesus does, you will want to do.
Let’s play a mirror game. You copy my motions.
(Scratch your nose, wave your hand, snap your fingers, flap your elbows up and down while making a chicken sound, laugh together.)
What did Jesus do that made God happy? That’s right. He got baptized and it made God happy that Jesus got baptized.
If Jesus did it, we should do it too. Remember, we get baptized to show others what we believe in our heart; that Jesus took our SINS and we want to be part of God’s family.
If you feel like your kid is ready to be baptized, please use this link to register them. We have more information about how to determine if your kid is ready for Baptism in our FAQs at the bottom of the Big Splash devotion page.

Dear God, thank you for teaching me about baptism tonight. Thank you for making it easy for me to show others what I believe. God, I’m so glad that Jesus was baptized because now I know that pleases you. I love you God. Amen.
