What was your favorite part about the Big Splash?

Tell me something that you learned at the Big Splash.

It was pretty cool to make a bracelet at the Big Splash wasn’t it? How can you use the bracelet that you made?

In the Big Splash, they told you that sin was a little word, but has a big meaning. We are going to look at that word sin in the Bible. Let’s read James 4:17. James was one of Jesus’ brothers and he wrote this book in the Bible to teach people about God’s way of living right. What is James teaching us? James is saying that knowing what to do (the RIGHT THING TO DO) but not doing it, God calls that SIN.

Do you have some sins that you want to talk about?

Parents: Reword it if necessary: Did you ever know what you were supposed to do, but decided you weren’t going to do it? Talk about sin in the life of the “kid.” Bring up instances that might help them to recognize their sin. Here are some “talk time” starters. No need to do them all; just enough to get the SIN point across.

• Have you ever been angry?

• Have you done something that was mean or hurt someone?

• Have you wanted something that someone else had?

• Have you said something that you are not allowed to say?

• Have you disobeyed or broken a rule?

Yeah, I’ve done some of those things too.

We all SIN. We all have a SIN problem, so you don’t have to feel like you’re the only one that has a sin problem. Even God knew we would have this problem and He loved us anyway! The Bible tells us over and over again that God loves us. Let’s look at a verse that talks about God’s great love for us.

That’s what we’re talking about today. We all SIN, but God loves us anyway! He loves us so much that He wants us to be part of His family! Remember when we put our hands out in the Big Splash to show that? (Put hands out with interlocking fingers.) This is what God wants. He loves us and wants to be connected to us.

When we SIN, we break that connection, like when we aren’t kind to our friends. Boom! (Pull hands apart.) God’s love pulls us back close to Him (Hands back together) and our SIN pulls us away from Him.

I am thankful that God loves us so much that He keeps connecting us back to him. He really wants us to be part of His family! This week we are going to learn that when we receive forgiveness, we are a part of God’s family forever and nothing separates us from that. (Hands back together)

Before we pray, let’s look at the beads on our bracelet. The black bead is for our SIN and the red bead is for God’s love. I’m so thankful for His love. Tomorrow we’re going to talk about how God solved our SIN problem once and for all. I can’t wait!

Let’s pray, “God I am sorry when I SIN, but thankful that you love me so much. Thank you for forgiving me and bringing me back to your family over and over again. God, thank you for loving me! Amen.”
