If you tithe (give 10%) of your family’s income for 90 days and at the end of the 90 days you believe that God hasn’t blessed you for your obedience, then we will give you all of your money back!

Let us know you're taking the Tithing Challenge. We'd love to send you some resources to help and encourage you.

90 Day Tithe Challenge Agreement

I understand…

  • by submitting this Agreement, my household will begin giving 10% of our total income to Waters Edge Church.

  • the 90 day period begins with my first tithe payment.

  • my tithe may be paid by check or through Waters Edge Church’s online giving option so my tithe can be properly recorded.

  • if I am not convinced God has blessed me/my family during that time, I am entitled to a full refund of the amounts given during the 90 Day Tithe Challenge.

  • any request for a refund must be made 90 to 180 days after my first tithe payment and I must show that I tithed.

5 Common Objections to the 90 Day Tithe Challenge

1. Tithing is an Old Testament ONLY command and does not relate to those living under the new covenant.

Tithing is consistently taught throughout the Mosaic Law in the Old Testament.¹ However, throughout the New Testament, Christians are encouraged to give and tithe as well. ² In fact, Jesus Himself directly commands us to “not neglect the tithe.” ³ And here’s why: because the tithe was not originally designed to be a law but a principle. We know this because the tithe was first introduced in the Bible before Moses was even born as Abraham tithed to the priest Melchizedek.⁴ Therefore, we see the principle of the tithe modeled before the Law, taught within the Law, reaffirmed by Jesus as a fulfillment of the Law, and modeled again by the early church after the Law. In fact what we see throughout the New Testament is that as Christians we are called to an even higher standard of living, obedience, and giving.⁵

1 Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:21-24; Deuteronomy 12:4-7; Proverbs 3:9. 2 Matthew 6:19-21; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7; 2 Corinthians 8:7. 3 Matthew 23:23. 4 Genesis 14:19-20. 5 Acts 2:42-45.

2. Can I trust the church with that much money?

As a church, we strive to be incredibly trustworthy and transparent stewards of the money that people tithe to us. You trust us to take care of your kids. You trust us to teach you God’s word. We pray that you will trust us to steward your tithe. At Waters Edge, our budget is reviewed by a Board of Directors and undergoes a thorough annual review by a certified CPA. If you give financially to Waters Edge Church, you can review the budget at any time as well by contacting our administrative offices. But ultimately, the tithe is not a trust question but an obedience question. While as a church we strive to be utterly faithful, you are called to tithe because ultimately, tithing is, about being obedient to God and trusting him with your finances.1

2 Corinthians 9:6-7; Deuteronomy 15:10; Luke 3:10; Luke 12:33; James 2:15-16.

3. I can’t afford to tithe…I can barely make ends meet as it is.

We would suggest that you can’t afford not to tithe! God promises to provide for us when we tithe, not based on the amount we give but rather based on our obedience to His command. When we give the first 10%, God supernaturally blesses the next 90%. This doesn’t mean that everything’s going to be easy or that you’re going to get rich! You’ll need to budget wisely and cut back on expenses. You’ll need to limit debt and honor God’s principles for your finances. However, we are convinced that as we tithe and live within our means on a budget, God will honor and bless us, not just financially, but in practically every area of our lives. 1

1 Luke 6:38; 1 Peter 4:10-11; Proverbs 11:24-25; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7; Philippians 4:19.

4. I give back to God in other ways like my time.

That’s great! God wants us to be generous in more ways than money; however, He does not give us the option of trading one for the other. Jesus said that money is the single greatest indicator of our hearts. 1 Therefore, if we want all of our hearts to belong to Jesus, we must surrender our finances to him as well as every other aspect of our lives. For we cannot say we trust God completely if we don’t trust him with our finances.

1 Matthew 6:19-21; 1 Timothy 6:10; Matthew 6:24.

5. I tithe, but to other charities and not just the church.

We love charities! As a church, we love to partner with local charities that are making a difference in our community. However, giving to local charities is not the same as giving to God through the local church. The church is the body of Christ. The church is the change agent in the world today. The church is the only organization that Jesus said He would build. The church shares the mandate and the mission of Jesus. The local church is the hope of the world. Unequivocally, the local church is the model for tithing in the Bible. God has designed it so that when you tithe, it goes to the local church.¹ Therefore, giving to other charities is amazing, for it is above and beyond the tithe.
